Norfolk part 2: Holkham, Cromer and Balkeney

Image
On Day 2, we headed to Holkham beach and were not disappointed. We were delighted to sea some horses galloping in the sand, something I have fond memories about and I certainly wish my little horse rider can do when she’s old enough. The weather was still overcast at that point but we still have enjoyed a walk around.  During our stay in Norfolk, we saw quite a few cyclists which made me miss my own bike, which I left at home. I gather part of the coast can be crossed on bike so definitely in the list for me! The horses were truly galloping  Cromer Pier where no one was very successful at Crab fishing so for my little girl we headed to Blakeney It that really a church rather than a cathedral? I couldn’t believe how many traditional churches we found in Norfolk. We visited this one and the one near Blakeney with the teenager I also loved the architecture. Here I found it funny to find a coloured house next door to a cobbled one.  Blakeney Quay Blakeney Church Cley n...

Norfolk Part 1: why did I not take the girls sooner

I have friends who enjoy holiday in Norfolk. My husband drove me there on a day trip many years ago. I have only just got around to taking our daughters there, and was surprised to realise it is only a couple of hours away from our house, the nearest seaside resorts, that is. Hardly further away than Skegness is.  We decided to go camping again for a couple of nights. The campsite where we went was inland but lovely. This time I had the pleasure of pitching up in the pouring rain as the weather was very erratic last Friday.  Our first stop was Hunstanton, and the beautiful cliffs  Then we did some crabbing in the rain in Well next the Sea. The weather was very unpredictable to the point where we could see a rainbow but it was a brilliant crabbing afternoon. More about crabbing another time. Is that a rainbow? As I said, we were camping so I had the joy of discovering what it is like to pitch up in the pouring rain! The heat wave has definitely ended in this country and we...

Me? Camping? Skegness 2026

Image
Yes I've done it. Camping! Can you believe it? For a bit of background, I have very little experience in camping as a kid as my mum has always been very sensitive to cold, and my dad vowed never to sleep under the canvas again after his national service, unless WW3 was to erupt in his lifetime. 😏 I (unintentionally) got out of a family camping trip in Whitby 2 years ago due to a fracture, but last bank holiday week end, beautiful weather was forecast, so we HAD to go to the sea side and why not make it two days?  You may know that Skegness is one of our favourites as it is the nearest resort, and I do not agree with popular opinion, that it is mediocre or overly tacky. The idea came to me at the 11th hour so I knew that it would be hard to find a place to stay overnight but as it was hot, I thought camping would be nice and I had to try it.  At last the sea!  Skegness Pier I love that idea, even though I no longer have a dog Oh I love those rock pools when the ti...

Gibraltar Point to Skegness
