South Wales Part 2: a dry day and a walk in Rest Bay

 

Our second day in Wales was not overly sunny but dry. The morning, our younger one was due to have a horse riding session, which she sent to, but her older sister was not so lucky with her surfing lesson that was cancelled due to a sewage problem 😞
Notre seconde journée au Pays-de-Galles n’était pas le plus ensoleillé mais il n’a pas plu. Le matin, notre fille a pu se rendre à sa reprise d’équitation prévue mais sa sœur aînée a eu moins de chance, pour son cours de surf, annulé dû à un problème de déversement d’égout compromettant la qualité de l’eau.😞



The afternoon was a bit sunnier, so we found Rest bay near enough Porthcawl, where we had no rest because our girls again wanted to climb the rocks, and at least this time, they found a couple of fossils 🙌 And the scenery was well worth the visit.

L’après-midi fut plus ensoleillé, donc nous avons trouvé Rest Bay, près de Porthcawl, mais pas pour nous reposer, nos filles voulant encore une fois escalader les rochers et cette fois, elles ont réussi à trouver deux fossiles, 🙌 sans compter que la vue en valait vraiment le déplacement.





There was a café and ice cream shop on top of the hill for a welcome break!

Nous avons trouvé un café et marchand de glace, où l’on ne s'est pas fait prier!

Vacances d’été annuelles à Westward Ho!

 Bonjour à tous ! L’été touchant à sa fin, il est temps de partager ce que notre famille a traversé cet été. Pour moi, malheureusement ça a mal commencé dû à une chute de vélo et une fracture au bras qui m’a valu son immobilisation pendant plusieurs semaines, a compromis nos projets d’aventures, et la rééducation ne fait que commencer. Cela dit, pas question de renoncer à nos vacances à Westward Ho! , dans le Nord du magnifique comté du Devon. J’adore cet endroit mais cela m’étonne que toutes mes connaissances anglaises ne le connaissent pas. ("Isn't it that place with an exclamation mark in its name?") Nous avons été gâtés par le climat, mais bien entendu, la température de l’eau dépasse rarement les 17 °C. Certains portent des combinaisons pour se baigner, elles sont d’ailleurs disponibles à la location pour 10 £ pour deux heures je crois. One lovely hike : Ladybower reservoir / Derwent Dam

As mentioned in the previous post, I broke my arm about 5 weeks ago, and the rehabilitation process is only just starting. I really miss my bike that I obviously  cannot use anymore, but still go for easy enough hikes with my young family. Shortly after we came back home from Devon, my husband saw that the circuit around Ladybower Reservoir, about 40 miles away, was nominated amongst the best hikes in England. We decided to go for it, as the weather was lovely and the difficulty sounded OK for me. Needless to say the view was breath-taking, it reminded me of a school trip to the Black Forest in Germany over 20 years ago. We saw a few families on bikes that could be hired from a nearby shop, but still quite a few people were also on foot.
